**Moodle Technical Support Engineer**
PURPOSE OF ROLE:
As a Moodle Technical Support Engineer, your primary responsibility is to provide comprehensive first and second-line support for our diverse range of customer Moodle Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs). Operating within a Linux environment, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation, installation, maintenance, upgrades and troubleshooting of Moodle and related software, addressing both routine inquiries and complex technical issues with proficiency and precision. Your expertise will be instrumental in delivering timely resolutions and fostering client satisfaction through effective communication and proactive problem-solving. The employees will be expected to combine their technical, verbal and written skills, working with a variety of senior, middle and junior managers/engineers.
KEY TASKS:
- Responsible for undertaking both first
- and second-line support duties within the support team for Moodle and related software
- Undertake the maintenance, diagnostic and corrective action of the support team online helpdesk and support call system, in an adequate and appropriate form.
- Work UK 9-5, Monday to Friday
- To participate in our 24/7 on call rotation rota
- Communicate effectively in English with colleagues and customers at all levels (telephone, electronic mail and online support desk).
- Ensure that the administration of all Moodle and associated services in the support team and hosted support services are maintained, backed up and secured appropriately under the guidance of the infrastructure department.
- Undertake support service installations, support calls and maintain the support team helpdesk as and when required.
- Provide fault logging/tracking in conjunction with the helpdesk software.
- Log support calls in accordance with the support team procedures.
- Keep abreast of technical and industry developments and share such information through team discussions and briefings etc.
- Assist in the configuration of authentication modules and solutions to connect to user directories using the appropriate means.
- Assist in-house project work and development to enhance Overt Software’s business model and the development of support service and products.
- Assist in maintaining the operating system and security software utilised on Overt Software’s network/online infrastructure.
- To train other employees in the technicalities, duties and responsibilities of the post.
- To participate in Overt Software’s Annual Professional Development Review Scheme and to undertake and attend all appropriate training and staff development events to ensure continuous professional development.
- To comply with Overt Software Solutions financial regulations.

**Applicant specifications**:
**Education**:Professional standard of spoken and written English, a bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or a related field.
**Desirable experience**:
- Proven experience in Moodle development, including customization, plugin development, and theming.
- Strong proficiency in PHP and web development technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
- Familiarity with LAMP stack (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP).
- Experience with database design and SQL.
- Knowledge of e-learning standards (SCORM, xAPI) is a plus.
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) is a plus.
