Role Purpose:

This position is responsible for the engineering design & support for assigned wells & projects. Also, to be done to allow execution of drilling & completions to be conducted in a safe, environmentally acceptable & efficient manner, and shall be undertaken in accordance with Company and international engineering standards, processes & practices to ensure compliance with government regulations. As well as to assist in the mentoring/development of junior staff.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Drilling Well Engineering

• Develop drilling program meeting the well objectives and at the same time in line with the Company policies, DWES, SKK Migas and good industry practices.
• Ensure Well Basis of Design and Drilling Programs are developed based on the scope of works provided by Exploration and Reservoir Engineering Groups.
• Ensure the execution of the drilling program is being implemented in a safe, cost effective and efficient manner.
• Regular interface with the Exploration/Subsurface Dept to integrate exploration/subsurface well objectives and requirement are met.
• Assist in study of well objectives, subsurface data and the target locations for drilling received from Geophysicists, in order to determine suitable placement of rigs, geophysical survey, and geotechnical survey and establish the borehole placement.
• Support all Mubadala Energy Business Units (BU) when required.
  

Staff Development

• Ensure all staff are properly trained to carry out their duties in a fully proficient manner.
• Setting individual objectives, managing performance, recruiting qualified staff, developing and motivating staff in order to maximize subordinate and departmental performance.
• Organize and supervise engineers to ensure that all works are based on established individual objectives. 
• Manage performance, develop and motivate them through formal and informal feedbacks in order to maximize individual performance
  

Budget and Contract

• Input Drilling expertise to the development of Mubadala's integrated multi-year Business Plan and Annual Work Program & Budget. The Plan describes the necessary activities, resources, targets, milestones, costs and deliverables.
• Ensure budget for drilling department are encompassing overall drilling activities as per the approved BU activities schedule. Responsible in obtaining the approval internally and SKKMIGAS.
• Participate in tendering for drilling associated materials, supplies, equipments and services. These include the preparation of drilling specifications & requirements, evaluations and until award of the contracts.
  

Continuous Improvement 

• Review process and procedures in effort to identify opportunities for continuous improvement of well design and operations by taking into account international best practice which indirectly introduce improvement of business processes and cost reduction.
  

Drilling & Logistic Operations

• Ensure implementation of the drilling program is achieving Drilling objectives within the Scope of Works and the Approval for Expenditure (AFE).
• Provide support to Drilling Superintendent & operations to ensure smooth drilling operations and safely manner.
• Work closely with exploration/subsurface dept to ensure well objectives are met during the execution phase.
• Plan for equipment loadout and advise supply base for execution.
• Support well testing contract preparation and interface with drilling operations.
• Ensure all import and export documents are in order and applied in accordance to the legislation requirements.
  

Procurement & Contractor Management

• Manage drilling contracts in accordance with the agreed contract agreements and obligations. Familiarity to the contract T&C and exhibits are compulsory.
• Ensure efficient management of service providers and adherence to the contracts.
  

HSSE

• Ensure all Drilling is compliant with HSE and Government regulations
• Supervise all process are carried out inline with company policies, procedures and regulations and international standard.
  

Cost Estimates

• Prepare reliable cost estimates and budgets for every Drilling project and well to obtain approval.
• Supervise the preparation of the drilling budget.
  

Engineering Design

• Develop the Casing Design, Bit Selection, Hydraulics Mud Design and Drilling Fluids, Drilling parameters, well trajectory, etc to execute drilling of the well cost effectively and efficiently.
• Leads internal well design reviews and risk assessments for each well.
• Ensure well designs are safe, efficient, and employ "best practices".
• Ensure that the Management of Change process is followed for all well design changes.

Qualifications include but are not limited to the following:

Knowledge and Experience

• Minimum Engineering Degree e.g. Mechanical, Petroleum, Mining or equivalent with a good understanding of Drilling technology and upstream processes.
• Minimum of 15 years of Drilling deepwater experience across multiple locations. 

Skills

• Drilling & Well operations, Deep Water & Subsea Drilling Engineering & Operations, IWCF Well Control, Drilling Software Compass & Landmark, Well Design, Audits & Reviews, Project Management, Planning and Resource Allocation Skills.
• Negotiation and relationship building.
• Good communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
