Senior Drilling Engineer

About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced
Senior Drilling Engineer
to lead and oversee the planning, execution, and optimization of drilling operations for our oil and gas exploration and development projects. This role is critical in ensuring that all drilling programs are executed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Oversight:
    Lead and manage all drilling operations and well engineering activities, including well design, permitting, and execution, to achieve production and operational targets.
  • Well Planning & Design:
    Develop, review, and optimize drilling plans and technical designs based on production data, ensuring cost efficiency, operational integrity, and alignment with company objectives.
  • Risk & HSE Management:
    Lead identification and assessment of operational risks (HAZOP), ensure strict adherence to Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) standards, and act as an independent challenger in risk reviews.
  • Contractor & Stakeholder Management:
    Provide engineering oversight for contractor services and equipment quality, including evaluation of new technologies. Coordinate with procurement, internal departments, SKK Migas, and third-party consultants.
  • Operations & Execution:
    Supervise field operations, logistics, and equipment maintenance for drilling and completion activities. Monitor well performance and operational KPIs to ensure optimal delivery.
  • Knowledge & Continuous Improvement:
    Document and share operational learnings and industry best practices. Identify opportunities to improve performance through cross-regional collaboration and adoption of new technologies.
  • Reporting & Budget Control:
    Prepare detailed drilling reports, manage project budgets, and implement cost control measures without compromising safety or quality.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in
    Petroleum Engineering
    ,
    Mechanical Engineering
    , or related discipline.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum
    15 years of experience
    in drilling operations, well design, and project execution within the oil & gas industry.
  • Proven record of
    planning and executing at least 15 wells
    (including 10 offshore wells), supported by end-of-well reports.
  • Experience in
    deepwater drilling
    ,
    HP/HT operations
    , and/or
    Extended Reach Drilling (ERD)
    is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of drilling software —
    Landmark suite
    (StressCheck, WellCAT, Compass, or equivalent for casing design, trajectories, hydraulics, torque & drag, BHA dynamics, and well control).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, challenge existing standards, and propose innovative solutions.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
