**Duties**:
The Political Specialist has substantive responsibility for researching issues, building and maintaining contacts, analyzing events and trends, writing reports, and supporting Political Officers on U.S. - Indonesia bilateral relations and Indonesia's relations with other countries and participation in multilateral organizations. The Political Specialist works in the Political Section, directly supervised by the Supervising Political Specialist. He/she works with the Political Officers assigned to the External Affairs Unit within the Political section. Major functions include: writing high-quality analyses and reports on often complex and sensitive social, political, economic, and security issues; monitoring Indonesia's multilateral initiatives and foreign policy priorities; engaging academic and civil society think tanks; analyzing Indonesia's engagement with other countries, and providing interpreter and translation services as needed to Embassy offices, the Front Office, and for visiting VVIPs and VIPs.

**Qualifications and Evaluations**:

- Requirements:
EXPERIENCE: Must have at least five (5) years working experience in a professional setting related to international relations, foreign policy, government, civil society or political affairs is required.
- (Please note that one credited year of working experience is equal to 40 hours/week x 52 weeks or 2080 hours.)_

JOB KNOWLEDGE: Detailed understanding of Indonesia's political system, government, ministries' and agencies' structure, particularly the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Knowledge of historical background, and the political, social, and religious culture of Indonesia. Detailed understanding of civil society including organizational leadership, history, orientation, and influence. Context and history behind Indonesia's foreign policy. Understand the political and relationship dynamics among actors within Indonesia's foreign policy establishment, legislation related to foreign policy, and challenges posed by other countries' policies that impact Indonesia.
- Education Requirements:
At least have a Bachelor's degree in Political Science, International Relations, Religious Studies, History, Law is required.

LANGUAGE: Fluent speaking/reading/writing in English and Indonesian are required. This may be tested
