We Open For Two Position (Science Educator and Front Reception)

ABOUT THE ROLE - SCIENCE EDUCATOR

We're seeking a qualified primary educator with strong science knowledge to join our learning community—not as a traditional teacher delivering lessons, but as an environment guardian who creates conditions where children's scientific curiosity flourishes naturally.

This role requires someone who understands that genuine scientific thinking emerges from direct experience with living systems, not from textbooks or worksheets. You'll work with children ages 3-12 as they investigate rice field ecosystems, observe decomposition in our compost systems, experiment with plant growth in our biodynamic farm, and pursue questions that emerge from genuine wonder.

At Open Flow, you won't be teaching science as a separate subject with fixed curriculum. Instead, you'll be:

• Creating investigation-rich environments where children encounter authentic scientific phenomena—living soil ecosystems, water flow patterns, chemical reactions in cooking, physics through building structures that must actually work.
• Following children's questions rather than delivering content. When a seven-year-old asks why some seeds rot while others sprout, you guide their multi-week investigation into moisture, temperature, and germination—supporting their inquiry rather than providing quick answers.
• Protecting flow states where deep learning happens. You recognize absorption as the goal, not attention to your instruction. When children are lost in experimentation, you guard that state fiercely.
• Working with developmental readiness rather than age-based expectations. You understand that symbolic scientific notation becomes accessible around ages 7-10 for most children, but observation, pattern recognition, and systems thinking develop through embodied experience from the earliest years.
• Integrating across domains because real scientific investigation requires mathematics, communication, artistic documentation, and collaborative problem-solving—all emerging naturally in service of meaningful work.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

• Qualified primary teacher with demonstrated science knowledge across physics, biology, and chemistry

• Deep curiosity about how children actually learn, not just how curriculum says they should

• Comfort with uncertainty and emergent curriculum—following children's interests while ensuring scientific depth

• Ability to observe skillfully, recognizing when to support inquiry and when silence serves learning better

FRONT RECEPTION

Front Office & Parent Liaison

• First Point of Contact: Warmly meet and greet all parents, visitors, and students. Handle general inquiries, manage the flow of visitors, and maintain a professional and welcoming reception area.
• Daily Check-in/Check-out: Manage the daily attendance process, including accurately checking students in and out using a dedicated list. This includes taking necessary photos of taxis/drivers for safety and record-keeping when required for student transport.
• Communication Hub: Act as the central point for parent communication, efficiently conveying messages, updates, and student-related information to the appropriate staff members via the team communication channel.
• Attendance Reporting: Confirm and communicate the daily attendance status to the team group by a set time (e.g., 9:30 AM), ensuring clear, numbered lists of present students.

Enrollment & Administrative Support

• Enrollment Data Management: Receive new enrollment information from the Enrollment Team and ensure comprehensive data entry into the school's central Student Attendance Schedule database. This involves creating and correctly labeling dedicated student tabs and maintaining alphabetical order, as well as updating the master student attendance list.
• Information Dissemination: Distribute new enrollment documents and essential contact details to relevant team members promptly, accurately and in format requested.
• Financial Administration: Prepare initial invoices for new enrollments to offer the confirmed price to parents (subsequent payment invoices are handled by the Accounting department).

Open Flow Team Support

• Support the educator team by supervising children during lunch and play duties
• Support as an assistant in the Early years learning space when needed
• Shop for the Future Food Learning space twice a week and liaise with the Future Food educator and accountant to make this work smoothly.

Skills & Qualifications

• Proven experience in a reception, administrative, or customer service role, preferably within a school or early years setting.
• Exceptional organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
• Proficiency in data entry and database management.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• A friendly, professional, and patient demeanor, with the ability to handle sensitive information confidentially.
• Competent in using digital communication tools (e.g., team messaging apps and spreadsheets).
