About the role

The Design/Production Engineer is responsible for designing mechanical components, developing production processes, and ensuring that all products and tooling meet quality, performance, and safety standards. This role involves product modelling, drafting, tooling design, troubleshooting production issues, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. The position requires strong technical skills, analytical thinking, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure efficient and reliable manufacturing operations.

Tasks & Responsibilities

Product Design & Drafting

  • Prepare detailed mechanical drawings, product specifications, and engineering documentation.

  • Develop 2D and 3D models using CAD software such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
  • Ensure all product designs comply with customer requirements, industry standards, and internal specifications.
  • Support design validation through simulations, tolerance analysis, and feasibility studies.

Production Support & Troubleshooting

  • Provide engineering support during production runs, including troubleshooting product or process issues.
  • Analyze root causes of production problems and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Optimize production methods to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance product quality.

Prototype Development & Testing

  • Prepare prototype samples and coordinate product trials.
  • Conduct tests to evaluate product performance, durability, and dimensional accuracy.
  • Analyze test results and adjust designs or processes to meet quality standards.

Process Improvement & Optimization

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement to enhance productivity and reduce defects.
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and production guidelines.
  • Preparation of product brochures, simulation on product assembly and application manuals

Customer & Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Liaise with customers to confirm product requirements, applications, and technical specifications.
  • Coordinate with quality, purchasing, operations, and production teams to support smooth workflow.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation for design, development, and production activities.
  • Prepare technical reports, engineering analyses, bill of materials (BOM), and revision records.
  • Ensure compliance with document control systems and engineering standards.

Project Planning & Execution

  • Plan and manage engineering tasks, project milestones, and deliverables.
  • Monitor project timelines and coordinate activities to ensure successful implementation.

Qualifications & Experience

Education:

Bachelor's degree from a reputable university in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, with a good GPA and a strong interest in engineering work.

Experience:

Minimum 3 years of working experience as a Product Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, or in a similar position.

Technical Knowledge:

  • Proficiency in mechanical drafting and engineering drawing.
  • Strong capability in design improvement, product trials, and root-cause analysis.
  • Experience in designing product tools, jigs, and fixtures.

Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting abilities.
  • High integrity, resourceful, and able to work independently.
  • Good teamwork and coordination skills.

Technical Abilities:

Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Simulation tools, and Abaqus.

Other Requirements:

Willing to be placed in Batam.
