Summary

WWF's No Plastic in Nature initiative was founded in 2018 with its goal is to stop leakage of plastic into nature by 2030. While, the main goal is to reduce the flow of plastic into the natural environment, the existing contamination of plastic in the environment has been a rising topic of discussion. Plastic pollution can create adverse effects on the land, rivers, and marine ecosystems, which includes mortality of fauna through ingestion or entanglement, reduction of livelihood of those dependent on the ecosystem health such as tourism and fishing, human health issues due microplastic contamination through food such as seafood or vegetables.

Job Description

  • Identify and conduct analysis gaps of national plastic pollution compliance regulation frameworks and implementation
  • Analyze international plastic pollution compliance regulation implementation study cases
  • Conduct study and analysis using evidence-based and meta-analysis-based methods to provide recommendations on the
    definition of plastic pollution, ambience, category, standard, and parameters
    for the enhancement of the implementation and compliance of the national regulation (UU No 32 Tahun 2009 especially for Plastic Pollution).
  • Examine practical and actionable measures for policy development including potential compliance mechanism
  • Suggest public awareness strategies to address the identified pollution compliance policy
  • Identify relevant stakeholders and conduct expert input, discussion, and dissemination to ensure alignment with Indonesia's cross sectoral and minitrial regulatory framework and standards.

Output:

Plastic Pollution Standardizations for Regulatory Compliance Improvement Document

  • A narrative document consisting of comprehensive study findings and reports including national and international regulatory framework and case study, meta-analysis and recommendation of plastic definition, category, ambience, standards, and parameters, actionable measure for policy developments and suggestion of compliance mechanism.
  • A high-level presentation document summarizing above narrative document.

Expert Input Workshop and Report Dissemination

  • A workshop to gather input for the study findings from relevant stakeholders; ideally to be conducted prior to the report finalisation
  • A workshop/meeting to share the final study result and recommendation to relevant stakeholders.

Job Qualification

  • Master Degree in environmental science/engineering/health, chemical science/engineering, and others
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of environmental protection, macro and micro plastic pollution, principles, standardization, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Proven experience conducting policy or regulatory reviews and synthesizing findings into actionable reports or guidance.
  • Strong analytical, writing, and coordination skills.
  • At least 5-7 years of experience in solid waste management, environmental management and protection, or other relevant experience
