A CFD Engineer applies fluid mechanics and numerical simulation to analyze how liquids and gases behave in and around products or systems. The main goal is to predict performance without having to build multiple physical prototypes. This role is analytical and suits someone comfortable with physics, meshing, and Linux-based simulation environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up CFD simulations using OpenFOAM or a similar solver to study internal flows (pipes, manifolds, cooling channels) and external flows (aerodynamics).
  • Generate computational meshes, including complex or snappy meshes, while balancing accuracy and computational cost.
  • Define boundary conditions, turbulence models, and solver settings appropriate to the engineering problem.
  • Post-process results in ParaView to extract velocity fields, pressure distribution, temperature gradients, and other performance indicators.
  • Compare simulation results against experimental data or engineering expectations and refine models accordingly.
  • Work with design engineers to suggest geometry changes that reduce pressure drop, improve cooling, or enhance aerodynamic performance.
  • Document methods, assumptions, and results in clear technical reports for engineers and non-CFD stakeholders.
  • Help maintain and improve internal CFD workflows, templates, and best practices.

Required Skills and Tools

  • Strong fluency in OpenFOAM and ParaView.
  • Solid understanding of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer.
  • Familiarity with turbulence models (k-epsilon, k-omega, SST, LES where relevant).
  • Comfort with Linux environments, scripting, and running batch simulations.
  • Ability to clean and prepare CAD for meshing.
  • Basic Python or shell scripting for automation and post-processing.

Preferred Background

  • Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Marine, Chemical, or Thermal Engineering.
  • Prior experience in aerodynamic studies, cooling of electronics, HVAC ducting, turbo machinery, or external flow analysis.
  • Experience with commercial CFD (ANSYS Fluent, STAR-CCM+) is an advantage.
