Our client is a leading multinational coal mining company primarily involved in coal mining operations.

About the Role

Our client is looking for a Head Legal for a mining company based in South Jakarta. This position is ideal for a candidate with a strong legal foundation and 7 years of experience across both law firms and corporate settings.

Initially starting as an individual contributor, the role offers a clear pathway to build and lead a legal team. As the Head Legal, you will play a pivotal role in supporting executive leadership by overseeing legal operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, and delivering strategic legal advice to guide the company's growth and operations.

Job Responsibilities

1. Legal Advisory and Compliance:

  • Provide comprehensive legal advice and support to the company's management and departments on a wide range of legal issues.
  • Ensure the company's operations comply with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of company policies and procedures to mitigate legal risks.

2. Contract Management:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents to safeguard the company's interests.
  • Manage and maintain a repository of all legal documents and ensure proper documentation and record-keeping.

3. Litigation Management:

  • Handle and manage litigation and dispute resolution processes, working closely with external legal counsel when necessary.
  • Represent the company in legal proceedings, mediations, and arbitration sessions.

4. Corporate Governance:

  • Assist in ensuring the company's compliance with corporate governance standards and practices.
  • Prepare and review board resolutions, minutes of meetings, and other corporate documents.

5. Risk Management:

  • Identify and assess potential legal risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Conduct regular audits and assessments to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

6. Team Leadership and Development:

  • Lead and mentor the legal team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Provide training and guidance to internal stakeholders on legal matters and compliance issues.

7. Stakeholder Management:

  • Liaise with external legal advisors, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders to ensure effective communication and representation of the company's interests.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business initiatives and projects.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Law is required; a Masters degree in Law or its equivalence is preferred.
  • PERADI certified
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in a combination of law firm and corporate legal roles, with significant exposure to the mining or natural resources sector.
  • Proven track record of managing complex legal matters and providing strategic legal counsel.
  • Strong understanding of international and local laws and regulations related to the coal mining industry.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • High ethical standards and professional integrity.
