About the role
Plant Sanitation Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the cleanliness and sanitation of the food manufacturing facility, including production areas, equipment, and surrounding environments. This role ensures compliance with food safety standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies while striving to improve operational efficiency and maintaining a safe, hygienic, and productive environment. This position plays a key role in preventing contamination and ensuring the facility meets all federal, state, and local health and safety guidelines.
Key responsibilities include
Sanitation Program Management
- Develop and oversee sanitation programs and cleaning schedules for all facility areas, including production, packaging, storage, and common spaces.
- Ensure compliance with SSOPs, GMP, HACCP, and other food safety and regulatory standards.
Team Leadership & Training
- Lead and manage the sanitation team through supervision, training, scheduling, and performance reviews.
- Provide ongoing training to maintain cleanliness and safety standards.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and teamwork.
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure adherence to OSHA, FDA, USDA, and EPA regulations.
- Support audits, inspections, and certifications; maintain sanitation records and cleaning logs.
Quality Control & Inspection
- Conduct regular inspections of sanitation practices and facility cleanliness.
- Perform verification tests (e.g., ATP, visual checks) and implement corrective actions in collaboration with quality control.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities for process optimization, cost reduction, and efficiency gains.
- Recommend new sanitation technologies and collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance hygiene and operations.
Inventory & Supplies Management
- Monitor and manage sanitation supplies and chemicals, ensuring proper storage, handling, and disposal per safety standards.
Safety & Environmental Compliance
- Enforce safe practices, including PPE use and chemical handling.
- Ensure sanitation activities support product safety and quality.
About you
- Bachelor Degreee in Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Food Industry, Food Technology, or related fields.
- 3+ years food industry experience in a manufacturing environment and or continues improving role.
- Proven experience in sanitation protocols and methods.
- Familiarity with Continuous Improvement tools and methodologies.
- Auditing experience (e.g., internal auditor for GFSI or equivalent standards).
- Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Advanced English proficiency (oral and written).
- Ability to thrive in dynamic, complex work environments.
- Strong multitasking capability.
- Experience working under high-pressure environmental conditions.
- Sound judgment for making complex and unprecedented decisions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills across all organizational levels.
- Ability to influence and achieve results through others.
- Skilled in conflict resolution and handling.
- High tolerance for frustration and ability to manage challenging situations.
- Strong analytical skills with a track record of quick, efficient, and collaborative problem-solving.
