Senior Marine Inspector

The Senior Marine Inspector is responsible for conducting comprehensive vessel inspections and ensuring that all ships under the company's management comply with international maritime standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements. This position provides expert technical and operational insight to maintain vessel integrity, safety, and efficiency across the fleet.

The ideal candidate will bring strong operational discipline, a deep understanding of marine inspection and vetting requirements, and prior experience from a major oil company or tanker operator, ensuring the company maintains world-class operational and safety standards.

1. Vessel Inspection & Compliance

• Conduct regular inspections onboard company vessels to assess seaworthiness, operational readiness, and compliance with company and industry standards.
• Evaluate the condition of hull, machinery, navigational, safety, and environmental protection equipment.
• Verify adherence to ISM, SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, ISGOTT, and OCIMF requirements.
• Review ship certificates, safety records, and documentation to ensure validity and accuracy.
• Provide detailed inspection reports with findings, risk assessments, and recommendations for corrective action.

2. Operational & Safety Oversight

• Assess onboard operations such as cargo handling, navigation, bunkering, and mooring to ensure compliance with best practices and safety procedures.
• Monitor implementation of the Safety Management System (SMS) and company operating standards.
• Provide guidance to Masters, Chief Engineers, and shipboard staff on improving operational performance and safety culture.
• Act as a company representative during incident investigations, vetting inspections, or port state control visits.

3. Technical & Maintenance Monitoring

• Evaluate the effectiveness of each vessel's Planned Maintenance System (PMS) and ensure timely execution of maintenance routines.
• Review major repair and dry-docking plans, ensuring technical and safety requirements are met.
• Coordinate follow-up actions with Technical and Marine Superintendents to address deficiencies or class/flag findings.
• Monitor vessel performance trends and recommend improvements for fuel efficiency and equipment reliability.

4. Audit & Vetting Preparation

• Prepare vessels for OCIMF SIRE, TMSA, RightShip, flag, and class inspections.
• Conduct internal audits and pre-vetting inspections to identify gaps prior to third-party audits.
• Provide onboard training and coaching to crews to ensure readiness for vetting inspections.

5. Advisory & Reporting

• Submit inspection reports, trend analyses, and improvement recommendations directly to management.
• Propose enhancements to the company's inspection standards and operational procedures.
• Participate in management meetings to support strategic decision-making for fleet operations.

• Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, Nautical Science, or related maritime discipline.
• Minimum 10–15 years of experience in vessel operations, marine inspection, or ship management, preferably in oil & gas or tanker operations.
• Experience with major oil companies or oil shipping subsidiaries is strongly preferred.
• In-depth knowledge of ISM, SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, ISGOTT, OCIMF, TMSA, and class/flag regulations.
• Former Chief Engineer or Master Mariner with relevant sea experience is highly desirable.
• Proven experience conducting or preparing vessels for OCIMF SIRE, TMSA, or RightShip inspections.
• Excellent analytical, reporting, and communication skills.
• High integrity, leadership presence, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Willingness to travel extensively for vessel visits, inspections, and audits.

• Strong understanding of oil major vetting systems and safety culture.
• Familiarity with marine inspection software and digital reporting tools.
• Ability to provide training, mentoring, and coaching to shipboard staff.
• Sound judgment and strategic thinking when advising top management.
