Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and dynamic Transportation Director to oversee the daily operations of our Transportation Department, including In-Park Tours, Activities Desks, Livery, and Phantom Ranch operations. The ideal candidate will manage staff, budgets, and vehicle fleets while ensuring exceptional guest service and compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
The Details:
Position Type: Full-Time, Year-Round
Schedule: Typical schedule is 40 hours, 5 days per week (may include weekends, evenings, and holidays)
Free Employee Housing: 3-bedroom house on-site

- Hands-on daily management and oversight of all operations of the Transportation Department, including site visits and inspection of each of the units.
- Demonstrate a high level of guest service skills with the ability to interact with guests, assist with problem resolution for both internal and external guests.
- Ability to represent the Company when communicating with the Client (National Park Service) and other park partners.
- Responsible for the preparation, oversight and achievement of the annual financial plan as well as the annual capital plan for all areas.
- Interview and select supervisory/management staff.
- Supervise and support the department managers to include creating and administering department policies and procedures, setting goals, and objectives, and conducting annual performance reviews.
- Responsible for the purchase of new fleet vehicles, seasonal leases, as well as the sale and disposal of vehicles removed from the fleet.
- Work with the training department to ensure interpretative training classes, guest service training is available for the employees of the tour bus and livery units.
- Provide direct oversight and work closely with the livery management team to ensure the stock and the operation is properly managed, on the rim as well as the inner canyon operations.
- Ensure all staff and vehicles used in the tours bus, and livery operation maintain proper licensing and are in compliance with D.O.T regulations and requirements.
- Approve all annual reviews and change of status requests for all transportation department employees.
- Approve and conduct corrective action as required for employees.
- Participate in the National Park Service Concessions and Safety evaluations of all department operations, as well as being responsible for timely corrections.
- Assist the Executive Director of Operations in the establishment of short and long term goals for the Transportation Department.
- Work closely with the related departments and staff to ensure Phantom Ranch is fully supported and supplied with the proper equipment and products to provide an exceptional guest, visitor and staff experience.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant accounting policies, including cash handling, inventory control and asset management.
- Ensure compliance with all safety, risk management and environmental policies.
- Ensure department employees of all levels and responsibilities participate in training classes and instruction to ensure the Company Hospitality Standards are achieved and there is continued education relevant to the position.
- Carry out the duties of Director on Duty as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Operations and/or General Manager.
- Five years of management experience in a hospitality and or transportation business environment.
- General knowledge of fleet services, retail, lodging, food & beverage, and livery operations.
- Demonstrated computer proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Possess knowledge of basic accounting procedures, including P&L statements.
- Possess good verbal, written and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate and interact with clients such as the National Park Service.
- Possess the physical ability to travel to Phantom Ranch as needed.
- Possess valid Arizona Driver's License and comply with the Xanterra South Rim Company Vehicle Policy.
Physical Requirements include:
The Transportation Director will frequently stand, walk, and sit as part of the daily duties, and will occasionally handle, reach outward, and squat/kneel. Physical activities such as lifting, carrying, and pushing/pulling may be required occasionally for loads of up to 25 lbs, with occasional requirements to lift heavier objects (up to 50 lbs). Climbing, crawling, bending, and reaching above the shoulder may also be needed on an occasional basis.
