Jakarta, Indonesia WRI Indonesia Full time

**Program Overview**

Launched in early 2014, WRI Indonesia builds on WRI’s global 20-year history in the country and the official establishment of the WRI Indonesia office has strengthened our impact on the ground in recent years. Our current work primarily focuses on agriculture, forest, land use, climate, energy, cities, and the ocean. Within WRI Indonesia, these portfolios are subsumed into two deputies based on terrestrial and non-terrestrial based consisting of 1) AFOLU which covers Agriculture, Forest, and Land Use; and 2) CECO which comprises of Climate, Energy, Cities and the Ocean.

Climate program within WRI focuses on four main areas: stepping up national climate action, advancing international climate action, tracking progress toward climate goals, and supporting equity and development goals in the transition to a zero-carbon economy. Our research evaluates the technical, economic and social benefits of climate action, as well as the costs of inaction. We work with national governments to design ambitious near-term climate plans that align with long-term temperature goals, and help integrate these into economic, sectoral and development plans. We help international policymakers advance climate solutions through negotiations and accords such as the Paris Agreement. We support businesses, civil society, local governments and other non-state actors as they pursue their own emissions-reduction and adaptation goals. We build tools to track global progress on fighting the climate crisis, inform good decision-making and ensure accountability for existing commitments. And we work with thought leaders around the world to accelerate adaptation efforts that will help vulnerable communities build resilience against climate impacts.

Different with the Climate program, WRI’s Energy program focuses on a number of specific initiatives including projects on Buildings, Energy Access, and Clean Energy. WRI’s Energy Program collaborates with policymakers, cities, companies, utilities, regulators and development institutions to secure a clean energy future for everyone. We facilitate partnerships to help cities and corporations purchase renewable power at scale to unlock economic opportunities. Our tools and analysis track communities most in need of electricity and identify places where clean energy is the most affordable and reliable solution. And we help city leaders around the world improve the efficiency of their buildings, a major source of emissions.

WRI Cities program is a global initiative dedicated to shape a future where cities work better for everyone. Our practices area span variously in Buildings, Health, Road Safety, Urban Mobility, Urban Development, Urban Government and Water. Through innovative research, deep engagement, and global partnerships, our network of local and international experts puts cities on a trajectory of more sustainable and equitable development. We catalyze and accelerate transformative initiatives that turn cities into resilient, inclusive, low-carbon places that are good for people and the planet. Placed in seven countries, made the WRI Cities program the second biggest portfolio after climate.

The Ocean program works to catalyze ambitious ocean action around the world by building on cutting-edge research and thought leadership. WRI works to build a sustainable ocean economy by putting sustainability at the heart of ocean management. We aim to accelerate ocean action while raising the profile of the ocean on the international stage. We convene the High Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy (Ocean Panel) along with Friends of Ocean Action, working directly with heads of state and an international network of experts and partners in business, intergovernmental organizations, NGOs and finance. We produce ground-breaking research exploring pressing challenges and solutions at the nexus of the ocean and the economy. And through the Ocean Watch open data platform, set to launch in 2021, we support the flow of science to policymakers working to develop sustainable ocean economies.
