Geographic Information Systems Analyst

ORIMBA is seeking a

candidate for the position of GIS Analyst to assist in the various geographic, remote sensing and other spatially based forest science tasks necessary to successfully manage Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) and Improved Forest Management (IFM) projects in Indonesia. The candidate should have strong capabilities in geospatial techniques, with experience/education in remote sensing and GIS, ideally with an interest in and/or knowledge of forestry and/or biodiversity conservation. This position requires not only a solid GIS Analyst, but an exceptional, passionate individual with excellent communication skills who can demonstrate proficiency with complicated, rapidly changing geospatial challenges. The GIS Analyst will report to the Chief Development Officer. This position will be based in the SLJ office in Jakarta, Indonesia. The GIS Analyst will work day-to-day with the Project Management Team in Jakarta and the Natural Forest Management team in Samarinda. Frequent travel to Kalimantan will be required. 

Responsibilities:

• General Duties:

The candidate will provide GIS and remote sensing support. Main duties include supporting the Project Management and Natural Forest Management teams by producing maps and analyses for project documents, supporting field teams in their forest inventory tasks, and maximizing spatial data organization and efficiencies for the company.
- GIS:

Demonstrate
practical

GIS skills in cartography, digitization (strong editing skills required), geodatabase management, raster (image) manipulation within the ArcGIS Pro environment. Use GIS for real world application and solve immediate and pressing conservation challenges. Candidates with applied experience will be favored.
- Forestry/Biometrics:

Make frequent field visits in all types of forest, using handheld GPS equipment for navigation, lead teams in forest measurements (DBH, crown cover, tree height) for the purposes of forest carbon inventories. Train local community members or stakeholders in GPS/mapping/navigation techniques. Knowledge and use of standard forestry equipment preferred.
- Computer skills:

Strong ability in ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, and/or QGIS will be required, including geoprocessing, raster processing, and cartography techniques. Microsoft Office (especially Excel) required; Knowledge of Adobe products (Acrobat, Photoshop) a plus; Programming skills desired, including Python, Google Earth Engine, R, and/or .NET, but not required. Knowledge of computer networking and large dataset storage and organization also desired.
- Team:

The candidate will be part of a dynamic, growing team of technically proficient conservation scientists and analysts. Frequent interaction with government counterparts and community members is required.

Qualifications:

• Candidates should possess at minimum a bachelor's degree in physical geography, forestry, environmental science, or another similar field with university qualifications in GIS / remote sensing.
• Five years of full-time work in the field of forestry or conservation desired. Forest measurement and/or inventory experience is required.
• Excellence in GIS analysis, including cartography, raster and vector data organization and geoprocessing.
• Strong computer proficiency required. Advanced spreadsheet management, Python programming and model builder experience are preferred.
• Strong communication skills, organized, thorough and detail oriented.
• Written and spoken fluency in Indonesian is required and English is preferred.
• Experience working in a diverse, and rapidly growing team, with ability to work under tight deadlines and accept a dynamic work environment.
