We're supporting our client to hire a Middleware Engineer (IBM MQ) for a major government digital-service initiative.

Project Overview

The program modernizes and unifies a wide ecosystem of public-sector services into a cohesive, resilient platform. With data and transactions moving across agencies, IBM MQ serves as the trusted integration layer that keeps communication secure, consistent, and reliable. This position helps maintain that backbone so the broader system operates without interruption.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and administer IBM MQ environments including Queue Managers, channels, queues, listeners, and clustered setups
  • Maintain MQ security controls such as SSL/TLS, certificate handling, CHLAUTH policies, and access permissions
  • Monitor and maintain messaging infrastructure using MQ Explorer, CLI tools, and enterprise monitoring platforms
  • Implement and support high availability, clustering, load balancing, and disaster recovery configurations
  • Work closely with applications and middleware platforms (Java/.NET services, API gateways, ESB, and IBM IIB/ACE)
  • Diagnose message-flow issues, perform log analysis, and drive clear root-cause resolution
  • Handle MQ patching, upgrades, and performance tuning
  • Collaborate with development, infrastructure, and integration teams to ensure smooth and secure message delivery across environments

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Informatics Engineering, or a related field
  • 2–3 years of hands-on experience managing middleware environments, specifically IBM MQ
  • Strong understanding of message-oriented middleware and enterprise messaging architecture
  • Proficiency in MQ setup, administration, clustering, and troubleshooting
  • Solid knowledge of key MQ components: Queue Managers, queues, channels, topics, subscriptions, listeners
  • Experience with MQ security (SSL/TLS, certificates, CHLAUTH, access controls)
  • Familiarity with HA, DR, and failover strategies for MQ
  • Working knowledge of Linux/Unix as MQ host platforms
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex integration issues and interpret logs effectively
