Job Title: Workshop Supervisor

Division/Dept: Owen Oil Tools

SUMMARY: 

Responsible for supervising workshop operations, including tool maintenance, redress, and QA/QC compliance. Manages tool inventory, ensures safety standards, and supports field operations by delivering reliable, ready-to-deploy equipment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Key Responsibilities

1. Workshop Operations & Tool Maintenance

• Lead and supervise day-to-day workshop activities ensuring all tools are maintained, redressed, and function-tested in accordance with QA/QC standards.
• Oversee the redressing, assembly, and pressure testing of:
  • Thru-Tubing Intervention Tools (e.g., mills, overshots, spears)
  • Retrievable Packers
  • Bridge Plugs
  • X-SPAN Casing Patch Systems
  • Setting & Retrieving Tools
• Ensure compliance with company SOPs and OEM procedures for all tool servicing and preparation.

2. Personnel Supervision & Development

• Assign tasks to Workshop Technicians based on operational priority and technician competency.
• Monitor performance and ensure all technicians follow safety protocols and job procedures.
• Identify training needs and work with Operations Coordinator to develop staff competencies (e.g., cross-training on packers vs milling tools).
• Ensure manpower readiness for mobilization or on-site support when needed.

3. Tool Asset Management

• Maintain and track a tool inventory of approximately 1,000 assets, ensuring:
  • Accurate input into inventory system
  • Timely redress and rotation of high-demand tools
  • Isolation and tagging of damaged or out-of-service tools
• Liaise with the Logistics/Asset team to coordinate tool movement, redress cycles, and SMI reduction targets.

4. Quality Assurance / Control

• Conduct and document all QA/QC activities including:
  • Visual inspections
  • NPT root cause investigations (e.g., tool failure analysis)
  • Functional tests (e.g., setting/retrieving simulations)
• Lead regular audits and compliance checks in support of IMS (ISO 9001/14001/45001).

5. Support to Field Operations

• Coordinate with Field Supervisors and Operations Coordinator to ensure tool readiness for mobilization based on job design.
• Provide technical support or advice to field personnel regarding tool string configurations, redress intervals, and assembly nuances (e.g., for X-SPAN applications).

6. Safety & Housekeeping

• Enforce strict adherence to HSSE standards and PPE compliance within the workshop.
• Maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free working environment, with regular inspections and housekeeping schedules.

7. Reporting & Documentation

• Ensure all tool redress, maintenance logs, and QA/QC reports are completed, signed off, and stored properly.
• Submit daily/weekly workshop reports including:
  • Redress activity summary
  • Tool readiness status
  • Technicians' man-hours
  • Incidents or near-misses (if any)

EDUCATION: 

• High School Diploma

PREFERRED QUALOFICATION & SKILLS

• Min. 5–7 years of experience in oilfield services, with hands-on knowledge of thru-tubing, packers, and intervention tools.
• Strong technical and mechanical aptitude
• Team leadership and personnel management skills
• Familiarity with inventory software (e.g., Excel-based trackers, ERP systems)
• Certifications in pressure testing, mechanical lifting, or similar areas is an advantage
• Safety-first mindset and ability to drive a compliance culture
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
• Knowledge of oil industry tools an asset
• Knowledge of ISO Quality System
