Intern - Humanitarian Affairs [temporary]

OCHA is the part of the United Nations Secretariat responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure a coherent response to emergencies. OCHA's mission is to mobilize and coordinate effective and principled humanitarian action in partnership with national and international actors in order to alleviate human suffering in disasters and emergencies; advocate the rights of people in need; promote preparedness and prevention, and facilitate sustainable solutions.
OCHA Indonesia addresses and facilitates issues relating to coordination, communications and humanitarian financing, and serves the entire humanitarian community. In doing this, OCHA works with the Government of Indonesia and other counterparts. OCHA provides support to the Humanitarian Coordinator (HC) and the Humanitarian Country Team (HCT) in Indonesia. Working with the entire humanitarian community, OCHA looks to foster a conducive operating environment that facilitates the effective delivery of humanitarian assistance (both material assistance and protection assistance). Crucially, OCHA promotes compliance with humanitarian principles in the humanitarian response.
This internship will be based in Jakarta, Indonesia. The intern shall be under the general guidance and supervision of the Humanitarian Affairs Analyst.
The internship is being offered for a maximum period of five (5) months.
**Responsibilities**:
In general, the intern shall support OCHA Indonesia in fostering a conducive operating environment that facilitates the effective delivery of humanitarian assistance (both material and protection). Support the Humanitarian Affairs Officer with the below tasks:
1. Maintaining support to the Government on response preparedness, with engagement from the OCHA Regional Office in collaboration with national humanitarian actors;
2. Continuing to support the in-country international humanitarian architecture for national preparedness and response; and
3. Enhancing OCHA's corporate liaison with ASEAN, the ASEAN Humanitarian Assistance Coordinating Centre, and the ASEAN Member States at operational and political levels.
In performing the above tasks, OCHA plays a significant role in supporting:
- National Cluster and thematic working group support, including the implementation of the HCT Action Plan and support to medium scale disaster responses
- Cash and Voucher Assistance and its linkage to Adaptive Social Protection
- HCT Contingency Planning exercise
- ASEAN Secretariat for strategic related issues at regional and global level and AHA Centre for capacity development during emergency response through inter-operability.
- Discussions on revision/development of Disaster Management Law.
The overall tasks during the internship will cover:
a. Support the preparation of reports and minutes of meeting.
b. Support the translation of documents, as needed.
c. Support the Humanitarian Affairs Analyst on daily activities and compiling data collection from OCHA partners.
d. Any other tasks as deemed necessary by the Head of Office

Education
To qualify for an internship with the UN Internship programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
a) Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent); or
c) Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation from an academic programme.
Applicants who are unable to commence the internship within one year of graduation shall not be accepted.
The University degree must be in the area of political and/or social science, international relations, public administration, law, economics, or in a related field.
