Banyan Global is implementing the U.S. Agency for International Development Partnerships for Productivity (USAID PADU) Activity in Indonesia. The five-year Activity, initiated in FY23, aims to enhance private sector investment in government-run vocational training institutions called Balai Latihan Kerja (BLKs) through partnerships between private sector firms and BLKs to foster market-driven, inclusive training programs. The key objectives are:

- Increase and strengthen partnerships between private sector and BLKs to implement market-driven and inclusive vocational training programs, and
- Improve BLK strategic partnership institutional capacity to implement market-driven and inclusive vocational training programs.

Banyan Global is recruiting a Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Specialist to lead the integration of GESI principles across USAID PADU, including support for an Inclusive Workforce Development Pilot focused on persons with disabilities. This position is likely to be an 18-to-24-month assignment based in North Sumatra or Jakarta, Indonesia and requires domestic travel. Indonesians are highly encouraged to apply.

**Responsibilities**:

- Provide strategic guidance and technical leadership for integrating GESI across all project activities, with a specific focus on addressing economic empowerment of persons with disabilities
- Update and refine the GESI Strategy in collaboration with project and headquarters teams.
- Oversee the achievement and monitoring of GESI-focused project indicators, ensuring all activity targets and deliverables are met according to USAID and Banyan Global standards. Includes USAID’s recent Disability Inclusion Policy, the 2023 Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Policy, and Positive Youth Development principles.
- Guide the design and implementation of GESI training and capacity-building programs, ensuring alignment with project goals and inclusive approaches.
- Ensure collaboration and coordination, sharing of information, needs, and progress across all project functions and components to implement as one team including but not limited to MEL, Knowledge Management and Communications, and all component team leads, with a particular attention to disability-inclusive practices.
- Liaise regularly with institutional counterparts and stakeholders’ representatives as it relates to GESI integration and standalone activities to monitor activity progress and provide support where needed.
- Provide technical support for achieving, tracking and measuring GESI-focused indicators ensuring that the GESI performance targets and deliverables outlined in the project annual work plans are completed in a timely and cost-effective manner, and that they meet high quality standards.
- Lead the review, design, and management of GESI-standalone or integrated local grants and subcontracts, prioritizing initiatives that address barriers for persons with disabilities and other marginalized groups.
- Contribute to project quarterly reports, annual work plans, and other project reports and deliverables as required, ensuring inclusion is documented and highlighted.
- Participate in USAID’s GESI community of practice, sharing lessons learned and best practices.

Qualifications:

- A bachelor’s degree in gender studies, or other social sciences, economics, development studies, or related field.
- At least five (5) years of progressive experience in GESI in the sectors of economic growth, workforce development, private sector engagement, education, or positive youth development is preferred.
- A minimum of five (5) years of professional experience with institutional strengthening for GESI and/or training programs in Indonesia or comparable experience.
- Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing GESI frameworks, including the development of research tools and analysis of data on groups in vulnerable situations.
- Demonstrated representational skills in fostering relationships with partner governments, donors, and national and international NGOs and partners is preferred.
- Strong technical research, analysis, writing, and project management skills in GESI and women’s empowerment is preferred.
- Prior experience leading GESI initiatives in USAID-funded projects in Indonesia, with knowledge of the country context and local stakeholder engagement, is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, planning, and communication skills with the ability to foster relationships with stakeholders and local partners.
