**THE ROLE**: A high fashion pattern maker is a skilled professional who translates a designer’s ideas into technical patterns that guide the construction of garments. The role is essential in ensuring that garments not only look good but also fit well and are feasible for production. To excel in this role, a high fashion pattern maker must possess a blend of technical skills, creativity, and industry knowledge. Here are the key skills and experiences that define a high fashion pattern maker:
**ROLE DESCRIPTION**:
- Creatively translate designer’s vision into working patterns with innovative problem-solving skills on complex cuts, raw material and accessories.
- Draft precise patterns (manual & digital) from design sketches, basic blocks, or reference samples. Prepare paper patterns with all details including, seam allowances, notches, grain lines, and labels. Proficiently execute grading of patterns without compromising fit or design integrity.
- Collaborate with Design, Technical and Sample Room to establish style construction standards.
- Have a deep knowledge of fabric behavior (stretch, drape or shrink) to anticipate the behavior of design translation to real product. Should be able to adjust patterns according to materials unique properties.
- Support in garment construction (couture techniques, tailoring, and finishing details such as seams, darts, hems, and fastenings) across the assembly of pieces of patterns.
- Support technical designers (Style Pack Technicians) making with advice on creative pattern added to the style, size charts, trims, special features including raw material, fusing details, and other relevant information.
- Assess fits on paper, models or mannequins and make necessary adjustments to ensure best fit. Participate in production approval samples review with designer and technical team. Update the sample and specifications for production.
- Familiarity with Computer Aided Design (CAD) Skills and 3D garment simulation tools can be additional support for visualization and refining patterns before physical prototypes are made.
- Work closely with designers, tailors and sampling/production team. Ability to listen to feedback and adjust patterns when working with clients or during fitting sessions.
**SKILLS & EXPERIENCE**:
- Minimum 7-10 years experience as Pattern Cutter/ Engineer/Technician.
- Proficient in Manual Pattern Making and Grading skills. Ability to translate sketches into three-dimensional designs.
- Having Computer Aided Design (CAD) Skills in Gerber, Lectra or Optitex would be considered as strength. Should be comfortable in a digital exposure, for example, Clo3D..
- Knowledge of garment construction and fitting, with strong understanding of fit, body movement and body proportion.
- Worked with high fashion houses or couture atelier, where designs are often handmade and with high precision, will be preferred. Experience working with high-end or bespoke clientele, where custom fit and design will be preferred..
- Exposure to fashion industry knowledge and trend awareness to understand the evolution of silhouette and design details.
- Have strong written and verbal communication skills, must be task-oriented and organized. Maintain a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment with flexibility to changes and manage multiple projects.
- Able to work with internal and external departments, including but not limited to engineering, production, and off-site manufacturing facilities
