Our client, dedicated to sourcing, roasting, and serving exceptional coffee, to create unique experiences that celebrate the rich flavours of Indonesian coffee culture, is looking for a Head of Coffee to join their team
**Requirements**:
- Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, Culinary Arts, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Proven experience in coffee R&D or as a Head of Coffee, with a strong understanding of coffee beans, brewing methods, and industry trends.
- Strong knowledge of coffee sourcing, roasting, and quality control.
- Experience in developing and executing new coffee products from concept to market.
- Leadership experience, including managing R&D teams and working cross-functionally with other departments.
- Knowledge of sustainability practices in the coffee industry.
- Proficiency in coffee cupping, sensory evaluation, and equipment management.
- Certifications in coffee-related fields, such as Q Grader, Q Processor, or other recognised certifications from SCA (Specialty Coffee Association) or similar organisations is a plus.
- Passionate coffee expert with a deep understanding of the coffee industry and its trends.
- Strong creativity and problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for quality and innovation.
- Excellent leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other departments to bring new ideas to life.
- Strong communication skills to effectively share knowledge with staff and stakeholders.
- A commitment to sustainability and ethical sourcing practices in the coffee industry.
**Responsibilities**:
- Lead the development and innovation of new coffee blends, brewing techniques, and menu offerings to ensure the company’s coffee products meet high-quality standards and customer preferences.
- Oversee all aspects of coffee research and development, from concept creation to implementation in stores and outlets.
- Monitor and analyse coffee trends, market demands, and consumer preferences to drive innovation and maintain a competitive advantage.
- Collaborate with the corporate kitchen team and other departments to ensure the integration of new coffee offerings aligns with menu and operational requirements.
- Develop and refine coffee quality control procedures, ensuring consistency and excellence across all locations.
- Work closely with sourcing teams to establish relationships with coffee bean suppliers, ensuring the best quality beans and sustainable practices.
- Conduct coffee cupping and sensory evaluation to assess and select the best coffee blends for new products.
- Provide training and support to baristas, café staff, and other team members on coffee knowledge, preparation techniques, and presentation standards.
- Lead initiatives in sustainability and ethical sourcing, ensuring the company’s coffee aligns with sustainable business practices.
- Manage R&D budgets, ensuring efficient use of resources while achieving innovative outcomes.
- Stay updated on new brewing technologies, equipment, and coffee processing methods to introduce cutting-edge techniques to the company.
