AI Engineer / Data Scientist - Soji

About Soji

We're building AI that transforms how aviation maintenance gets done. Our systems digitize complex technical documents, automate compliance checks, and help MRO teams work faster and smarter. We work with industry leaders - and we're just getting started.

The Role

You'll push the boundaries of what AI can do with aviation documents. This means extracting structure from messy PDFs, fine-tuning models to understand domain-specific language, and building benchmarks that prove we're setting the standard for the industry.

What You'll Do
- Build and optimize pipelines for ingesting, parsing, and understanding aviation PDFs at scale
- Fine-tune and train LLMs/VLMs for document understanding, extraction, and compliance tasks
- Design rigorous benchmarks and evaluation frameworks - then beat them
- Research and implement state-of-the-art techniques in document AI, OCR, and structured extraction
- Collaborate directly with customers to understand real-world edge cases and failure modes
- Ship production systems, not just prototypes

What We're Looking For
- Strong Python skills and comfort with modern ML tooling
- Experience with LLMs/VLMs, fine-tuning, and prompt engineering
- Track record of building document processing or information extraction systems
- Rigorous approach to evaluation and benchmarking
- Curiosity about aviation or complex industrial domains (a plus, not required)
- Bias toward shipping and iterating
