Summary:

The 
College Counselor
's role is to guide students through the complex process of career exploration, university selection, and application. This professional develops and implements comprehensive career guidance programs, ensuring students make informed decisions about their post-secondary education and future career paths. The College Counselor works to empower students to identify their strengths, interests, and aspirations, connecting them with relevant educational opportunities and resources worldwide. This role is crucial in fostering student self-awareness and preparing them for successful transitions beyond the school environment.

Placement: SMA Kemala Taruna Bhayangkara (Academic year 2026/2027)

Key Responsibilities

A. Student Guidance and Counselling

  • Provide individualized and group counselling
     to students on career interests, aptitude, skill development, and higher education options.
  • Facilitate self-assessment activities
     (e.g., personality tests, interest inventories) to help students understand their profiles and potential career alignments.
  • Guide students through the university research and selection process
    , considering academic requirements, cultural fit, financial aspects, and personal preferences.
  • Assist students with university application procedures
    , including essay writing, recommendation requests, transcript submission, and interview preparation.
  • Educate students on various higher education systems
     (e.g., US, UK, Canada, Europe, Asia) and specific program requirements.
  • Support students in developing strong personal statements, resumes, and portfolios.

B. Program Development and Management

  • Design, implement, and manage a comprehensive career guidance curriculum
     for all secondary students, integrated into the school's pastoral or advisory program where appropriate.
  • Organize and coordinate career fairs, university visits, and workshops
     featuring university representatives, alumni, and industry professionals.
  • Develop and maintain a robust library of career resources
    , including online platforms, university prospectuses, scholarship information, and industry data.
  • Track and analyze university application trends and outcomes
     for the school's graduates, using data to inform future guidance strategies.
  • Stay current with global higher education trends, admission requirements, and scholarship opportunities.

C. Collaboration and Communication

  • Liaise effectively with university admissions officers
     and external educational consultants to build strong relationships and advocate for students.
  • Collaborate closely with academic departments and subject teachers
     to ensure students are aware of prerequisite courses for their desired university programs.
  • Communicate regularly with parents
     regarding university planning, application processes, and financial aid options.
  • Work with the school's leadership team
     to align career guidance with the school's overall mission and student development goals.
  • Utilize online platforms and tools
     (e.g., Naviance, Cialfo, BridgeU) to manage applications and resources efficiently.

D. Professional Development

  • Actively participate in professional development opportunities
     related to career counselling, university admissions, and international education trends.
  • Engage with professional networks
     (e.g., NACAC, CIS, regional university guidance associations) to share best practices and expand knowledge.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; Master's degree preferred. Experience studying abroad or familiarity with overseas colleges would be a plus.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in student counselling or university admissions guidance, or demonstrated familiarity with these areas. Preferably in an international school environment.
  • Highly organized, student-focused, and able to collaborate effectively with students, parents, and teachers.
  • Able to demonstrate fluency in English, both spoken and written.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and counselling skills.
  • Strong understanding of global higher education systems and university application processes
