Key Responsibilities of Secondary School Music teacher:

Teaching and Learning Management:

  • Build positive relationships with students, recognizing their profound impact on learning outcomes.
  • Foster inquiry-based and concept-driven learning, integrating Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills into lessons to develop independent, reflective, and effective learners.
  • Design engaging and differentiated lessons that cater to a diverse range of abilities and cultural backgrounds.
  • Use a variety of formative and summative assessments to monitor and support student progress, ensuring feedback is timely, constructive, and aligned with IB practices.
  • Utilize technology to enhance learning experiences and regularly update ManageBac as a record of student achievement.
  • Provide a caring, inclusive environment where learning is engaging, challenging, and relevant, ensuring the safety and welfare of students and resources.
  • Encourage student agency by involving learners in classroom decision-making and providing clear goals, processes, and behavioral expectations.

Curriculum Delivery and Planning:

  • Collaborate with subject coordinators and colleagues to design and deliver a coherent curriculum that reflects IB standards and transdisciplinary connections.
  • Align curriculum delivery with the school's internal calendar, ensuring lesson plans and long-term schemes of work are timely and comprehensive.
  • Embed assessment practices that are authentic, improve learning, and make expectations clear to students.
  • Promote interdisciplinary links and inquiry-driven learning that encourages students to connect concepts to real-world experiences.

Professional Development:

  • Stay updated with current developments in subject knowledge and pedagogy by attending seminars, workshops, and professional learning sessions.
  • Actively participate in the teacher evaluation process, including classroom observations and reflective feedback sessions.
  • Share expertise and innovative strategies during in-school training and collaborative planning sessions.
  • Develop and maintain a professional portfolio to track ongoing learning and achievements.

Resource Management:

  • Create a stimulating and organized classroom environment with displays that reflect and celebrate student learning.
  • Incorporate the latest technology and resources to improve instruction and support differentiation.
  • Foster care and respect for all school materials and resources among students.

Pastoral Care:

  • Act as a mentor, supporting students' physical, emotional, and mental well-being.
  • Promote the IB Learner Profile attributes and the SVP Champion Mindset to encourage student growth and resilience.
  • Supervise students during designated times, including morning duty, lunch, and extracurricular activities, ensuring their safety and welfare.
  • Celebrate student achievements through assemblies, conferences, and other school events.
  • Communicate effectively with parents through meetings, emails, and incident reports to share updates and address concerns.

Whole-School and Community Engagement:

  • Participate actively in school improvement initiatives, meetings, and professional learning communities.
  • Encourage parental involvement in school projects, events, and classroom activities to strengthen the home-school partnership.
  • Support school-wide programs, including enrichment activities, extra-curricular programs, and competitions.
  • Coach a team or conduct at least one ECA annually and participate in competitions or overnight camps as required.

Job Expectations :

  • All applicants must hold min. an S1/Undergraduate qualification from Music Department
  • Excellent English skills.
