This role is part of Alcon's Engineering function, a team focused on improving quality, processes, products, packaging and materials across our business to help deliver brilliant outcomes. The Sr. Associate, Quality Engineering, is primarily responsible for developing, modifying, and maintaining quality evaluation and control systems, devising inspection methods, and managing product quality risks. You will apply advanced technical knowledge and analytical skills to ensure product precision and reliability.

In this role, a typical day will include:

  • Conduct microbiology laboratory sample analyses with strong sample management, integrity, and efficiency to ensure accurate and timely results.
  • Perform key microbiology tests including environmental monitoring, product bioburden, endotoxin testing, microvacuole testing, growth promotion tests, BI incoming testing, and sterility testing.
  • Maintain accurate and compliant records of all analyses and activities following ALCOA+ principles, ensuring proper documentation and archiving.
  • Support microbiologists in non-routine tasks such as equipment qualifications and validation activities, following established methods and protocols.
  • Ensure all laboratory instruments are in good working condition and calibrated according to SOPs.
  • Monitor and manage laboratory materials, ensuring they are within expiry and suitable for use.
  • Assist in managing microbiology lab inventory and supplies.
  • Maintain excellent housekeeping practices to ensure a clean, safe, and organized laboratory environment.
  • Properly dispose of microbiology samples, waste, and reagents in accordance with procedures.
  • Work in compliance with the HSE Manual and all documented procedures, promptly reporting any HSE concerns.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO ALCON:

  • Diploma in Microbiology, Biology, or Pharmacy with 2–3 years' experience in a microbiology laboratory; Bachelor's degree in Microbiology or Biology preferred.
  • Open to fresh graduates applicants with a good understanding of microbiology.
  • Preferably 2–3 years of experience in the medical or pharmaceutical industry with exposure to microbiology laboratory practices.
  • Good understanding of Environmental Monitoring of cleanrooms and compressed air systems (particulate and viable monitoring)
  • Experienced in water monitoring (total count, coliform, endotoxin), product bioburden and endotoxin testing, media preparation and growth promotion testing, and microbial staining and identification are preferred.
  • Strong understanding of good laboratory practices and aseptic techniques
  • Knowledge of microbiological test methods and procedures
  • Ability to operate microbiology laboratory equipment effectively
