Job responsibilities

  • Conduct visual and measurement tests on incoming materials, in-process production, and finished products to ensure they meet required specifications.
  • Oversee production processes to make sure they are adhering to quality standards and to identify potential issues.
  • Document inspection results, defects, and deviations in reports and logs.
  • Report findings to management and other relevant teams, and suggest corrective actions to resolve quality issues.
  • Ensure products and processes comply with industry standards, regulations, and company policies.
  • Use and maintain quality assurance equipment and software, such as calipers, gauges, and CMMs (Coordinate-Measuring Machines).
  • Analyze quality data to identify trends and areas for improvement, and help implement changes to production processes.
  • Coach or train junior employees in quality control procedures.

Required skills and qualifications

  • Proficiency with inspection and measuring tools, quality control software, and statistical analysis.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail to identify defects and trends.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to document reports and collaborate with other teams.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is often sufficient, though some roles may prefer or require a bachelor's degree in a related field like engineering or science.
  • Experience in a quality control or manufacturing role is often required, with specific experience varying by the level of the position.
