About the role

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Asisten Chef/Cook to join our culinary team in North Sumatra. This is a full-time position offering an excellent opportunity to develop your cooking skills in a dynamic hospitality environment. As an Assistant Chef, you will work alongside our head chef and kitchen team to prepare high-quality meals, maintain kitchen standards, and contribute to an exceptional dining experience for our guests. This role is vital to the smooth operation of our kitchen and the overall success of our food service operations.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook a variety of dishes according to established recipes, menus, and presentation standards
  • Assist the head chef in planning menus, selecting ingredients, and determining portion sizes and food costs
  • Maintain high standards of food hygiene, health and safety, and kitchen cleanliness in compliance with local regulations
  • Prep ingredients by washing, peeling, chopping and storing them appropriately
  • Monitor cooking times and temperatures to ensure food is cooked to the correct standard
  • Support the kitchen team during service, responding promptly to orders and maintaining workflow
  • Receive feedback from head chef and management and implement improvements to cooking techniques and presentations
  • Maintain and care for kitchen equipment and report any faults or maintenance needs
  • Assist with stock control, food ordering and inventory management as required
  • Work flexibly during peak service times and special events

What we're looking for

  • Proven experience working in a professional kitchen environment, with a minimum of 1-2 years' experience as a cook or kitchen assistant
  • Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques, cooking methods and culinary best practices
  • Ability to work efficiently and maintain focus in a fast-paced, high-pressure kitchen environment
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to maintaining consistent food quality and presentation standards
  • Knowledge of food hygiene and safety standards, with relevant certifications preferred
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to work collaboratively with kitchen and front-of-house staff
  • Physical fitness and stamina to stand for extended periods and lift heavy items safely
  • Flexibility to work varying shifts, including evenings, weekends and public holidays as required
  • Willingness to learn and develop culinary skills under the guidance of experienced chefs
  • Familiarity with local North Sumatra cuisine and Indonesian cooking is advantageous
