JOB SUMMARY
OUCRU Indonesia
The Eijkman-Oxford Clinical Research Unit (EOCRU) was established in 2008 in collaboration with the Eijkman Institute of Molecular Biology and the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia. In 2022, EOCRU changed its name to OUCRU Indonesia initiated by the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia. OUCRU Indonesia has also collaborated with the University of Indonesia to establish the Universities of Indonesia and Oxford Clinical Research Laboratory (IOCRL), a facility to support collaborative clinical research between universities. Internationally, OUCRU Indonesia is also part of The Global Health Network and Oxford Tropical Network and operates under the auspices of OUCRU in Vietnam.
In 2018, in response to the growing importance of partnerships between researchers and the public, as well as the need to involve the public in health research, OUCRU Indonesia established a public relations department or better known as
public and community engagement
. The Public and Community Engagement (PCE) team at OUCRU Indonesia is expanding its portfolio of health research engagement initiatives that foster dialogue and collaboration with diverse stakeholders. One of the current priorities is developing an outbreak communication framework for underserved communities, which will later be consulted with multiple stakeholders such as the Indonesia Ministry of Health, youth groups, journalists, Civil Society Organizations representatives and community representatives. This inclusive approach ensures that the framework reflects different perspectives and remains practical for future outbreak preparedness and response.
In parallel, the team is establishing a Community Forum for Health Research, designed to involve lay representatives in shaping research priorities, providing feedback, and guiding ethical practices. OUCRU Indonesia is also initiating the Indonesia Health and Science Nexus, which is being developed in collaboration with OUCRU's institutional partners to serve as a platform for relevant stakeholders to discuss pressing health and science issues at national and regional levels. These initiatives collectively require multi-level stakeholder engagement and strong technical and documentation support. As part of its engagement approach, the PCE team also runs digital initiatives to promote knowledge and interest in science and research within the community, create a platform for researchers and public to interact and disseminate significant information to reach wider audiences and promote engagement around health and science.
This activity aims to increase interest in health research and awareness of community engagement through practical voluntary work.
