Under the limited supervision of the Lead Director or Vice President, State Government Relations, the Director, Government Relations is responsible for the daily management, leadership and support of the statewide government relations funding initiatives for Boys & Girls Clubs of America, and will provide all necessary support to the Government Relations staff in their roles of influencing federal and state policies and actions.

**Responsibilities**:
**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**
- Provide active technical assistance to seven to 11 State Alliances to secure state funding and support the state legislative efforts of Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
- Provide active leadership, guidance, technical assistance and communication to local Boys & Girls Clubs, Alliance Board of Directors, and Area Councils in regard to state legislative and government funding efforts.
- Develop all plans and ensure execution of said plans in conjunction with the Alliance Board of Directors and the Alliance lobbyist to garner state funds from the respective states assigned.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with key legislators, elected officials, state agencies and other stakeholders necessary and instrumental to the garnering of state funds.
- Provide leadership and direction on the implementation of annual legislative day events coupled with Youth of the Year events when possible.
- Provide direction, guidance, and supervision to the hired lobbyists/legislative consultants in each respective state. With Alliance Board input direct the hiring and contracting of lobbyists/legislative consultants.
- Provide direction and specific support, as needed, to State Alliances in regard to grant/funding administration and management to include; proposals, letters of agreement, and reporting systems and processes.
- Provide active leadership to the five to seven Alliance Board of Directors and Board Committees to assure participation of board members, to support effective board functions and roles and to ensure the board is provided with the information necessary to fulfill their objectives.
- Assure all financial management and accountability responsibilities required of the Alliance occur in a timely manner i.e. quarterly financial reports, annual audits, board minutes and rosters, etc.
- Provide active leadership and assure that the required annual membership meeting occurs each year and that clubs are notified as per Alliance bylaws.

**ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Work closely on a regular basis with BGCA field staff to provide guidance and technical assistance in regard to state legislative and government funding efforts.
- Monitor, interpret and disseminate information on policies and actions of state governments that impact local Boys & Girls Clubs.
- As required, work closely with the Vice President State Government Relations and the Senior Vice President, Government Relations as well as key headquarters staff to invigorate and strengthen the government relations activities taking place at the state level.
- Work under the supervision of the Lead Director or Vice President, State Government Relations to expand statewide government activities throughout the nation.
- Assist with other duties/projects as assigned by the Vice President, State Government Relations.
- Adhere to organizational policies and procedures as described in BGCA’s Employee Handbook, Ethics Policy and elsewhere.

**SUPERVISION EXERCISED**
- May supervise direct reports. May monitor and coordinate the work of temporary employees and student interns.

Qualifications:
**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**
- Bachelor’s degree or education/experience equivalency.
- Minimum of six years of experience working in the Boys & Girls Club Movement, or similar organization; demonstrated experience working collaboratively with local Club or organizational boards and staff, and state leaders; demonstrated experience working with state legislatures and an understanding of state government funding; and working knowledge of the impact government funds can have on the success of a local Boys & Girls Club or similar organization in serving its members.
