These centres, working in coordination with the UN system, reach out to the media and educational institutions, engage in partnerships with governments, local civil society organizations and the private sector, and maintain libraries and electronic information resources.

Just as UNICs are the principal sources of information about the United Nations system in the countries where they are located, they are also responsible for promoting greater public understanding of and support for the aims and activities of the United Nations by disseminating information on the work of the Organization to people everywhere, especially in developing countries.

This internship is located in the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Jakarta, Indonesia, and is offered for a period of six months. UNIC Jakarta’s mission is to promote the values and impact of the UN in Indonesia, supporting the communication of all United Nations agencies in the country.

The internship is unpaid with remote working arrangement. The Intern is expected to work five days per week (35 hours) or on an agreeable time arrangement, under the supervision and support of a staff member from the office to which they are assigned.

**Responsibilities**:
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background; the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited to:

- Assist in regularly updating UNIC/UN in Indonesia’s digital channels - website and social media - including translation;
- Assist in scanning relevant news/stories updates from UN agencies to be amplified by UN in Indonesia’s channels including for the UN in Indonesia monthly newsletter;
- Assist with monitoring the media for news stories of interest to the UNIC/UN;
- Assist in organizing activities for the planned as well as ad hoc UN events (online webinars, etc.);
- Document relevant UNIC’s online communications/outreach activities - key events, numbers of participants etc. for internal archiving purposes;
- Assist with general support to overall public information activities, meetings, etc.;
- Perform other related duties, as required.

Education

Please note that to qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
(a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or

(b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).

Applicants must also:

- Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter;
- Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience

Languages
Fluency in Bahasa Indonesia and English is required for the internship.
Knowledge of other UN official languages is desirable but not compulsory.
