**YOUR POSITION WITH TNC**:
The NCS (Natural Climate Solution) Data Manager will support field data monitoring, spatial and quantitative data analysis for Natural Climate Solution projects.

**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**:
The NCS Data Manager will be responsible for database management related to carbon and GHG emission and associated environmental variables. They coordinate losely with Forest Carbon and Climate Senior Manager (FCCSM), Natural Climate Solution and Production Forest (NCSPF) Manager, Peatland Project Manager and Peatland Specialist, as well as global science team. They establish and maintain partnerships at all levels. They develop innovative mapping techniques to help communicate and analyze required data for NCS analysis. This may include the following functions:

- Designing and maintaining database including geospatial and tabular data systems for Natural Climate Solution research project.
- Mining and reorganizing data from primary sources/field data collection, and secondary sources from publications or reports.
- Working knowledge on carbon dynamic and GHG emission from land sector.
- Providing quality assurance at various stages of the project in order to validate the analysis.
- Preparing appropriate documentation and reports based on relevant dataset.
- Providing substantial contributing for analyzing and drafting scientific publication.
- Experience with data collection and conducting field work.
- Must be willing and able to travel to project sites.

Specific deliverables:

- Produce database library for peatland global analysis related to refining current peat maps, peat restoration opportunity and GHG emission database from various projects.
- Provide conceptual database design.
- Compile primary and spatial data with completeness and clarity of documentation.
- Dependable supports to other NCS activities.
- Participate in writing a draft manuscript with other scientists on NCS.

The NCS Data Manager will be based in Jakarta. They will report to Forest Carbon and Climate (FCC) Senior Manager.

**RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE**:

- Geographic size and scope is that of a larger, complex business unit and/or a program that requires cross-boundary work and relationships.
- Frequently makes independently strategic decision based on analysis, ambiguous information and context.
- Negotiates complex agreements, in a political environment.
- May be responsible for leading or co-leading for NCS projects.
- Frequent travel domestically and/or internationally, evening and weekend hours.
- May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances.
- YKAN may, from time to time, assign the Employee to another location(s) in accordance with the requirements of the Employee’s job description and/or YKAN’s operational needs. The Employee agrees to work in such other work location(s) in Indonesia.

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**:

- MS degree in forestry, natural resource management, geography or related field with 5-10 years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in designing and maintaining enterprise-scale spatial and relational databases to meet organizational needs.
- Experience in developing and managing multiple projects.
- Experience creating and maintaining internet-based spatial data viewers, interactive online analysis tools and spatial data distribution tools.
- Supervisory experience, including ability to motivate, lead, set objectives and manage performance.
- Experience administering a budget.
- Experience training individuals and groups (if required).
- Experience in relevant scripting and programming languages (e.g. KML and KMZ files, Python, R, Microsoft VBA, C++, Java, etc.).
- Experience with GIS data analysis and demonstrated experience using geospatial software such as ArcMap, Google Earth Engine, eCognition, ERDAS, QGIS, or others.

**DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS**
- Has experience on GHG emissions accounting and record of scientific publication.
- High level experience using database languages such as SQL, R, Python or JavaScript; spreadsheet tools such as Microsoft Excel or; and data visualization software.
