We are seeking for a passionate and dedicated Junior Veterinarian to join our team. In this crucial role, as a Junior Veterinarian, you will focus on providing specialized veterinary care for orangutans in our conservation program. This position demands a commitment to both the health and well-being of these endangered primates and the broader goals of our conservation efforts. You will play a key role in the daily health management, medical treatment, and overall welfare of rescued orangutans, ensuring they receive the highest standard of care as they transition towards rehabilitation and eventual release into their natural habitat.

Your contribution will be

1. Perform comprehensive health evaluations, implement preventive care strategies, administer emergency treatments, and manage reproductive health procedures for both wild and domestic animals to ensure their overall well-being.

3. Develop, implement, and regularly review individualized nutrition plans for orangutans based on their specific dietary needs, monitor and adjust feeding practices, and supervise the preparation and delivery of balanced meals.

4. Implement and promote disease prevention measures that address the interconnected health of animals, humans, and the environment, ensuring a comprehensive approach to managing potential health risks.

5. Manage and support the rehabilitation process for orangutans, providing guidance and adjustments to care plans to align with the animals’ health and behavioral needs, and monitor their progress towards recovery and adaptation.

6. Maintain, inspect, and inventory medical and clinic equipment and supplies, ensuring they are properly serviced, stored, and readily available to support effective veterinary care.

7. Accurately document all clinical findings, treatments, and observations in patient records, prepare detailed reports on animal health and rehabilitation progress, and ensure all documentation complies with organizational standards.

Your profile ideally ilustrate:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine is mandatory

2. Minimum of 1 year experience working with orangutans or in a veterinary role; recent graduates are also encouraged to apply

3. Proficiency in both spoken and written English

4. Well-organized and detail-oriented work style

5. Willingness and ability to spend time in the forest with orangutans

6. Strong sense of responsibility and compassion for animals, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills

7. Experience or comfort working within a diverse team, including both local and international colleagues

8. Ability to manage stress and work under pressure

9. Able to carry out the instructions given well and complete the work within the time given

10. Possess a passion as well as dedication for wildlife conservation

11. Have a good work ethic in carrying out work and communicating with coworkers

12. Willing to stay in Samboja, East Kalimantan if s/he hold the position

Desirable

1. Experience with Primate Care: Previous experience working with primates, especially orangutans, or a solid understanding of their health and behavior.

2. Fieldwork Experience: Experience or comfort with fieldwork, including working in remote or challenging environments.

3. Research Interest: A demonstrated interest in contributing to veterinary research or wildlife conservation efforts.
