Head of Primary

British School Jakarta (BSJ) is an international school with a distinctive British heritage, providing an outstanding education for 1,400 students aged 2-18. One of the leading international schools in South East Asia, BSJ is a vibrant global community, welcoming students and families from over 45 different nationalities. The School celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.
Under the leadership of the Principal, David Butcher, BSJ has pursued an ambitious, outward-facing strategy. In the rapidly changing world of international education, BSJ aspires to be a pioneering school, setting new standards and to be regarded as a global leader. The strategic aim is to be a school for 'today and tomorrow' and a series of unique partnerships with Manchester City Football Club, MIT/Center for Systems Awareness, Langley Group, Wellbeing Distillery and others have expanded BSJ's sphere of influence and enriched the educational experience of its students. In 2023, BSJ became one of the first international schools to appoint a dedicated Head of Wellbeing to its Leadership Team, further signalling a deep commitment to innovation and excellence in education.
In addition, the role of Head of Primary will take on an added phase of support and responsibility. As of August 2025, BSJ will commence with the BSJ Middle School. This unique educational model will see Years 6 & 7 having a devoted building that will accommodate and foster their learning experience. The staff will be a blend of primary and secondary teachers, and there will be an exciting framework upstreaming the very best of the Primary School academic framework and downstreaming the IB MYP from the Secondary School.
The successful candidate will lead a large primary of 600 students to achieve new levels of success, embedding inquiry-based learning, leading on curriculum innovation and unlocking the benefits of BSJ's innovative approach to wellbeing for primary students. This is an exciting opportunity for a 'positive disruptor' with a track record of achievement either as a Head or as a Deputy in a large school. International experience isn't required but a clear vision, strong leadership skills and the capacity to inspire our community are all essential, as is a genuine resonance with BSJ's mission, vision and values.
