EXECUTIVE HOUSEKEEPER

**JOB SUMMARY**:
Planning, organizing, recruiting and controlling of the functions of the housekeeping department

responsible for the direct supervision and coordination of the activities of the department which

includes public areas, uniform room laundry and rooms.

maintains the hotel at the highest standard of cleanliness and presentation.

**DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Co-ordinates with the Human Resources Department in the selection of staff.
- Directs all areas of Housekeeping in the requirements of the hotel in both daily and long-term operations.
- Oversees on-the-job training for all staff ensuring their thorough understanding of their duties.
- Schedule duties and programs to accommodate the needs of other departments.
- Instigate special cleaning programs as required.
- Communicates to the Assistant Housekeeper and Supervisors the activities of the hotel and plan / direct accordingly.
- Ensures good communication is established and maintained with all other departments.
- Establishes departmental standards and policies and procedures.
- Develops task breakdowns for all routine tasks to enable consistent work habits that meet departmental standards.
- Monitors the standard of Guest room and Public area cleaning.
- Monitors the quality of floral arrangements within all areas of the hotel.
- Monitors the quality of work in the laundry for both guest laundry and house laundry.
- Ensures all equipment is maintained in good working order and that maintenance requests are raised as required and completed.
- Ensures all staff have a complete understanding of the House Rules.
- Ensures policies and procedures are understood and followed.
- Carries out performance appraisals to evaluate staff performance.
- Disciplines and counsels staff as required.
- Departmental rosters - prepared in accordance to the hotel’s requirements.
- Oversees the training schedule for all sections of the department.
- Supervises regular meetings with the staff.
- Ensures the correct procedures are followed for lost property.
- Liases with outside contractors who report to housekeeping.
- Answers guest questions / complaints concerning the department.
- Monitors all expenses in all sections. Reduces expenses wherever practicable without compromising standards.
- Prepares annual budget.
- Ensures the master key is secured at all times.
- Ensures key security is maintained for the entire department.
- Attends meetings as requested.
- Carries out regular rounds of the hotel to spot-check the standards of house keeping.
- Establishes inventory records and controls for all areas of the department to monitor expenses and minimise waste.
- Liaises with the Maintenance Department regarding the implementation of a maintenance programme. Ensures all minor maintenance requests are attended to, also requests for special functions. Advise management if major work is required.
