Junior Sous Chef – Job Description
Position Overview:
The Junior Sous Chef supports the Sous Chef and Executive Chef in overseeing daily kitchen operations. This role focuses on ensuring food quality, assisting with supervision of kitchen staff, and maintaining high standards of cleanliness, organization, and efficiency. The Junior Sous Chef acts as a bridge between line cooks and senior kitchen management, helping to deliver consistent culinary excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Sous Chef and Executive Chef in food preparation, cooking, and presentation across all kitchen sections.
- Supervise and support kitchen staff to maintain consistency, efficiency, and quality during service.
- Ensure all dishes are prepared according to established recipes, portion sizes, and presentation standards.
- Help with menu development, specials creation, and recipe testing.
- Monitor stock levels, assist with inventory control, and communicate supply needs to the Sous Chef.
- Maintain compliance with food safety, hygiene, and sanitation regulations at all times.
- Train, guide, and motivate junior kitchen staff to enhance performance and teamwork.
- Step in to lead kitchen operations in the absence of the Sous Chef when required.
- Assist in managing waste control and cost efficiency in food production.
- Collaborate with other departments (e.g., service, purchasing) to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
