The Transportation Department Head is responsible for overseeing the efficient and cost-effective transportation of goods within a company. This role involves planning and optimizing transportation routes, managing a fleet of vehicles, leading a team, ensuring compliance with regulations, and implementing technology solutions for enhanced efficiency. This position plays a crucial role in controlling costs, maintaining customer satisfaction, and mitigating risks associated with transportation operations.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.     Develop and optimize transportation routes to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of goods.

2.     Utilize route planning software and tools to enhance efficiency and reduce transportation costs.

3.     Monitor and analyze route performance to identify areas for improvement

4.     Manage a fleet of vehicles, including trucks, vans, and other transportation assets.

5.     Coordinate vehicle maintenance schedules to ensure optimal performance and compliance with safety regulations.

6.     Oversee fuel efficiency and maintenance costs

7.     Stay current with transportation regulations, permits, and licensing requirements.

8.     Ensure compliance with safety standards, environmental regulations, and other relevant laws governing transportation.

9.     Develop and manage budgets for transportation and logistics operations.

10.  Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement strategies to optimize transportation expenses.

11.  Negotiate contracts with third-party carriers and suppliers.

12.  Identify and mitigate risks associated with transportation operations, including issues related to safety, security, and supply chain disruptions.

13.  Develop contingency plans to address unforeseen challenges.

QUALIFICATIONS & RELEVANT EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.

Proven experience minimum 5 years in transportation management, logistics, or a similar role.

Strong knowledge of transportation regulations, safety standards, and industry best practices.

Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Proficiency in using Transportation Management System and other relevant technologies.

Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
